btw for any of you WW1 jocks who havent tried IL2 I would recommend it. Yes its 10 years old but its still a runner. Thinking of course in the long term with SoW not that far off and the potential to learn some WW2 skills?..... anyhoo...linky.... store.steampowered.com/app/15320/£9.99

Yeah, ive been on a bit over the christmas period, its pretty good and I get to do much more ground pounding! some of the new (even simple things) are pretty good.
The only thing thats missing is 6DOF...but that then takes us back to the madness of mods
Still, im looking forward to SOW as IL2 is starting to look tired and old.

This is what I've been running and I like it, but feel free to suggest anything u think might make things look even better.
Nvidia 275gtx settings: (which I also have loaded in my IRtracker profile as well)
AF=4x AA=override app. 8xQ AA transparency=Supersampling single display perf. mode Negative LOD bias=clamp threaded optimization=off triple buffering=on Vsync=force on (i run this and trip buff or i get tearing)
[Render_OpenGL] TexQual=3 TexMipFilter=3 TexCompress=0 TexFlags.UseDither=1 TexFlags.UseAlpha=0 TexFlags.UseIndex=0 TexFlags.PolygonStipple=0 TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0 TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1 TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1 TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0 TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1 TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1 TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1 TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0 TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0 TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1 TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1 TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1 TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1 TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1
HardwareShaders=1
Shadows=2 Specular=2 SpecularLight=2 DiffuseLight=2 DynamicalLights=1 MeshDetail=2 VisibilityDistance=3
Sky=2 Forest=3 LandShading=3 LandDetails=2
LandGeom=3 TexLarge=1 TexLandQual=3 TexLandLarge=1
VideoSetupId=17 Water=4 Effects=2 ForceShaders1x=0
PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15 PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0
PS: It looks like to me that with:
HardwareShaders=1, the water looks f-king great but the shoreline is only so so.(note I run Water=4 which is Nvidia only!)(ATI should run Water=2, I think). Some have performance drop with this setting, a problem with newer v-cards?
HardwareShaders=0, the water looks kinda flat(not shiney),though the shorelines look much better(smoothly curving down to the water, the effect is more noticable with some alt)
the other thing that seems to effects the way the shore looks is: TexMipFilter=3 (smoother transition of the bank down to the water) TexMipFilter=2 and below(less smooth more angled)
Disclaimer: These statements have been pulled out of my ass, and might not bare any relation to the facts. ;D

Sure wish they'd incorporate 6DOF into an official patch, then I'd be completely satisfied with vanilla..

Dusted off my 1946 DVD spent a few weeks getting it installed on Win7, now I get 16fps sat on the ground in the cockpit, seems editing the config.ini is the only way to tweak. Given up again for a while, downloading UP201, hopefully that will improve the fps. Not sure what to to turn down, using an ATi 4890. Just finished a week of night shifts so feeling a bit cranky anyway

How bizarre is this...... DirectX 100+ fps Opengl 10 fps Even more bizarre is my graphic card work load... Directx 59% - 99% openGL 0% CPU max load on one of the cores is 48%, so I reckon my CPU is trying to run the OpenGL and the GPU is not given anything to do. I have updated my drivers and completely eradicated the old drivers using driver sweeper. Really at a loss as to where to go now, apart from go buy a GTX570

In DirectX the graphics are corrupt and it looks pretty naff TBH as AA and Anio don't work.

did you apply the same numbers that are in the opengl part of conf.ini to the directx section in conf.ini?....there shouldnt be that much difference tbh m8

Hey B-Rat, AFAIK, you won't be able to run the same settings in directx as in openGL. On another line of reasoning, check the "ProcessAffinityMask= " line in your conf.ini [rts] section. This game hates running on multi-cores. Remove the ";" infront of the line if there and select a core to run it on. 1=core0, 2=core1, 3=core2, 4=core3 etc. It might be a reason that its not liken OpenGL. ProcessAffinityMask=1 is what mine is set to and its running on my 1st core (core 0) Have you looked over here? forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/8841060056
