I spoke with Miggins yesterday. I was flyin on Hellequins with him and Taipan. I aksed him about the flares which seemed fired from the mud.
He told me they invented that to exposing lowflying Bombers. If a plane flies that low and comes within range of 1000 feet from a ground unit a flare is shot. So the plane should be doomed by incoming fighters.
I think it's a pretty good idea to implement. The question is ofcourse will this atract people to the mud or will it stimulate the two seaters and bombers to get higher which pushes the fights a bit higher.
Could be interesting if we had AI recons flying at height who fired flares in the same way. This could draw attention of the low flying pilots and pull them up a bit.
What do you think?

the fighting over at hellequins is generally very low anyway, so i dont think it would make a difference to them, but to us, yer, it would just drag everyone down low into a massive furball.
perhaps more punishing flak at the target areas, but can it be set to be very heavy at 1000ft and lower, and a little less heavy the higher you are?

Interesting idea, but as Repent mentioned, I could be counter productive.
AAA can be made insane down low by adding lots of MG's. They are quite effective up to almost 1000m, but they usually react quite late. Above 1000m, you will not be hit. I'll give it a try.

I think it works.
The furballing on the ground is mostly due to newbies flying and just dogfight hungry pilots. On our server I think it would help the already more realist atmosphere.
And doing this with AI recons will pull players up.

Why not put ai spotters up high then?....fire a flare when they see an enemy?.
bottom line is....if someone sees a flare they are gonna go look....if its low, itll pull ppl down lower.

I like your thinking Jed! AI planes firing flares at 3000m...could be a winner

i like the high altitude flaring... seems historical as well... scared by enemy scouts, flare and hope for help!

You did Wolfie! You;re a genius as well! Now all we need is to setup a poll to decide which colour we will use!

a poll would be nice...but please don't include all the colours... it would be too easy then, i propose a pre-poll to choose a colour we don't want in the final poll...

Nah... green means "okay". No-one will investigate! I say yellow. No -one understands a yellow flare. It will add more confusion to the battlefield which is always good!
